It’s Peel season !
WILL A CHEMICAL PEEL MAKE ME LOOK LIKE SAMANTHA FROM SEX & THE CITY?
When it comes to Chemical Peels, most people have always had visions of Samantha Jones from Sex and the City and her crazy red face experience after a “freshening” peel. You know the episode I’m talking about…
This picture of of bright red, flaking skin has unfortunately scared countless women away from the benefits of peels – to brighten the complexion and smooth out wrinkles. We are here to put all of those concerns to bed with the real scoop on our less-than-terrifying chemical peels!
The only mistake Samantha made was her “impulse purchase” right before a big event. Your skin therapists at Karma can help you decide on the perfect level of peel for your skincare goals and the amount of downtime your schedule allows!
Peels these days come in varying strengths and can be personalised to your skin’s needs. They work by chemically exfoliating the first few layers of your skin, and revealing the younger skin beneath. Fine lines and pigmentation exist on these few layers, so you remove a few of those too (if you that is something that matters to you).
A good peel should leave your skin a little red, but within a few hours it should be soft and glowing; and within a few days it should be smooth, hydrated and gorgeous.

What it is
A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance and texture of the skin on the face, neck, or hands. It involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the top layer of the skin to peel off. This process promotes the growth of new, healthier skin cells and can address various skin concerns.

How its done
Preparation: Before the procedure, we will thoroughly cleanse to remove any oil, dirt, or makeup.
Application: The chemical solution is applied to the skin The type and strength of the peel used can vary depending on the specific skin concerns being addressed.
Duration: The solution is left on the skin for anything from a few minutes to 30 mins , depending on the type of peel.
Reaction: During the peel, most clients experience a warm or tingling sensation. Some peels may cause a temporary stinging or burning sensation. This discomfort is usually temporary.
Peeling: Over the next few days to a week, the treated skin will start to peel, revealing new, smoother skin underneath. The extent of peeling can vary depending on the type of peel and its strength.

Types of peel
Superficial Peel: This type of peel only affects the outermost layer of the skin (the epidermis). It is used to improve skin texture, tone, and the appearance of mild discoloration. Common ingredients for superficial peels include alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs).
Medium Peel: A medium-depth peel penetrates deeper into the skin, reaching the middle layer (the dermis). It can address more significant skin issues, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and moderate skin discoloration. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is often used for medium peels.
Deep Peel: Deep peels penetrate the deepest layers of the skin and are used for severe skin concerns, such as deep wrinkles, scars, and extensive sun damage. Phenol is a common ingredient for deep peels.(medic only)

What are the Benefits of a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are an effective treatment for a wide range of skin issues from smoothing fine lines and wrinkles to treating acne, mild scarring and sun damage. No matter your concern, you can expect a more youthful, refreshed and radiant appearance to skin texture and tone.
What Can I Expect?
Your skin therapist will wash your face before applying a topical solution to exfoliate the skin. Your face may feel tight and warm with a mild stinging sensation that quickly subsides.
This formula smooths the texture of the skin by removing the damaged outer layers. Depending on the type of peel, some patients experience peeling 3 to 5 days after treatment. Our pre and post-care support allow us to monitor your progress every step of the way.
After a single chemical peel, most patients notice an immediate improvement, but results are cumulative so the best benefits are seen after a series of chemical peels.
“Chemical” and “Peel” sounds scary! Is this damaging to my skin?
Quite the opposite! Don’t let the word chemical turn you away – the ingredients in these peels are derived from all-natural ingredients. And the flaking just means that your skin is healing – breaking down to build back even stronger! You can feel safe and confident in the hands of our highly-trained, physician-led practice.
Where Can A Peel Be Done?
